Nagarbhavi- Means ‘well of snakes’ in local language and this area apparently had lot of snakes and thus deriving its name from it. Marathalli- Halli in local language means "village", Though many stories surround the derivation of the name. There are some who claim the word Maratha originates from Maruti (Hanuman) temple located here in ancient era. Other tales say that the word originated from the Maratha community.
